On this page you will find an overview of frequently asked questions, which will be continuously updated.

Strategies and examples

What possibilities do I have to make my teaching and learning content available online?

Far too many. Therefore, in the current situation we recommend a reduction to three basic forms:

  1. Record lectures in an (empty) lecture hall (limited possibilities) or
  2. record lectures or seminar input at home (as video or audio only for presentation purposes) and
  3. Use learning platforms (Stud.IP & ILIAS) to publish these videos or other material and

Supplement seminaristic online formats with discussions, tasks, exercises, etc.

These basic forms are explained on the main page.
Can't I just hold my event as a video conference?
This is possible in principle and also makes sense didactically (see our Wiki page on this topic). BUT: since video conferences have a high impact on the infrastructure, synchronous teaching formats could put a heavy strain on it. It often depends on the time of day and number of participants. Alternatively, you can use data-economic asynchronous forms of communication. Who knows: maybe other advantages will come from the current situation.
Where can you find examples of how to implement courses online?

We have some scenarios here where you can find examples

of how to implement the different activities of a course.
Where can I find an example course for ILIAS content that illustrates different scenarios?
In our public area in ILIAS we have two sample courses. You can also reach them via elearning.uni-halle.de/onlinebetrieb-demo

Instructions and tools

I would like to use ILIAS as an e-learning platform for my seminar. What do I have to do in order to use the corresponding tools?
We have explained how to get started step-by-step on the page Making learning content available online
For electronic lectures I would prefer the combination of powerpoint slides and simultaneous spoken explanation (recording live pictures from a lecture hall is not necessary). Is there a suitable tool for this purpose?
Yes, definitely. On the page Recording Learning Content we have introduced a tool for recording and editing audio content in the section "Recording a Podcast". The audio file can then be offered in addition to the presentation.
My employees successfully use the software xyz, which works much better than the ones recommended here. Can the LLZ obtain a campus license for this software?

No. The ITZ at MLU is responsible for all software purchases. When using external software (and software not recommended by the LLZ), please note the data protection regulations which continue to apply. For example, compulsory registration with external providers for students does not comply with data protection regulations.

You can find a list of existing campus licenses in our tool list by selecting "Campuslizenz" in the last tab "Kosten".
Is there a possibility to import test questions available in other formats into a question pool?
It is possible to convert existing test questions into an importable file using the GIFT-Formats. GIFT format is a markup language for formatting test questions for question pools. This procedure is only recommended for advanced users.

Technical questions and problems

The video conference with the recommended services is severed or the transmission quality is poor.
Do not run video conferences over the VPN connection. This will improve the quality of the video conference and save bandwidth for other services. Many lecturers are currently converting their classroom sessions to online mode. This leads to increased impact on the existing infrastructure for video conferences. The German Research Network provides information about Einschränkungen der zentralen Videokonferenzdienste Adobe Connect and Pexip. We therefore recommend using Webex as a video conferencing service. All lecturers have the possibility to request a personal account by sending an email to webex@itz.uni-halle.de and using it as a host for video conferences.
I cannot log in on ilias.uni-halle.de: an error message appears / I have forgotten my password

Sie benötigen zuerst einen Account.

Once this is created, you will find your login name for the system at Stud.IP (menu: Tools > Learning Objects) and can use the forwarding function there.

If the login fails due to a wrong password, please send an email to support@elearning.uni-halle.de and we will assign you a new password (please understand that we are currently experiencing increased response times).
I have other techinal problems. For example: Stud.IP-access, WIFI, VPN or E-Mail.
Please use the helpdesk of the ITZ https://www.itz.uni-halle.de/aktuelles/home-office/.
